Daniel Silva (born 1960) – in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and moved to California at age seven, now residing in Florida. He was raised Catholic but later converted to Judaism as an adult. He began his career at United Press International (UPI) in 1984, eventually serving as a Middle East correspondent in Cairo and the Persian Gulf. He later moved to CNN, where he became an executive producer for public policy programs like Crossfire and Reliable Sources. Silva transitioned to full-time writing in 1997 following the success of his debut novel, The Unlikely Spy (1996). He created a long-running series of novels (26 so far) featuring Gabriel Allon, a master art restorer and legendary Israeli intelligence operative. While studying at the Bezalel Academy of Art in Jerusalem, the fictional Allon was recruited to participate in the mission to assassinate the terrorists responsible for the Munich Olympics Massacre. He went on to become one of the most effective assassins and spies for Israel’s intelligence services. Now ostensibly retired, he lives in Venice, working at fine art restoration, and taking on high-stakes cases as a private citizen at the request of his former colleagues. [Google/AI]
