Liad Shoham

Liad Shoham (born 1971, Givatayim, Israel) - a prominent Israeli crime novelist and practicing attorney. He has authored 11 legal thrillers, of which the two listed below were translated into English. They are gritty police procedurals set in Tel Aviv that intertwine legal expertise with social commentary. Wikipedia refers to him as “Israel’s John Grisham”.

Lineup (2013):  After a brutal rape in a quiet neighborhood, the police have no leads until the victim’s father takes matters into his own hands. He identifies a suspicious man, Ziv Nevo, lurking near the crime scene. Nevo appears guilty and is identified in a lineup, but he remains silent during interrogation. He is actually a low-level worker for the Israeli mafia; revealing his true reason for being there—a mob assignment—could get him killed by his bosses.The story follows veteran detective Eli Nahum as he contends with pressure from superiors and the media to close the case, eventually discovering that the quest for a quick conviction may have allowed the real criminal to remain at large. 

Asylum City (2014):  Social activist Michal Poleg is found murdered in her apartment.The investigation is led by Anat Nachmias, a young officer on her first major murder case. An African asylum seeker, Gabriel, is seen fleeing the scene and quickly confesses to the crime. While her commanders are eager to close the case, Anat is unconvinced by the confession and suspects Michal’s activism made her enemies far more powerful than a refugee. The investigation exposes a “shadow world” of illegal banking, corrupt politicians, and criminal syndicates that exploit Tel Aviv’s refugee population.

Another of Shoham’s numerous novels, referred to in the Wikipedia article, is Blood Oranges (2014), but it does not appear to have been published in any English translation that I could locate.
