Ilene Schneider

Ilene Schneider (born 1948–1949 in Boston) – She graduated from the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in Philadelphia in 1976, becoming one of the first six women rabbis ordained in the United States. She later earned an Ed.D. and served in congregational and hospice settings, including as Coordinator of the Jewish Hospice Program for Samaritan Hospice in Marlton, New Jersey. After retiring from full-time rabbinical work, Schneider devoted herself to writing fiction. Her Rabbi Aviva Cohen Mysteries combine classic amateur-sleuth conventions with an insider’s portrayal of American Jewish religious life. Schneider wrote the nonfiction book Talking Dirty—in Yiddish? and contributed to the Jewish Noir anthology.
