Elise Sax
Elise Sax (born 1968 in San Diego, CA) – after working as a journalist and a private investigator, Elise turned in 2012 to full-time writing with her 11-volume (+ 1 prequel) Matchmaker Mysteries Series. She has since published dozens of books in several series, including a spin-off of her original series called the Matchmaker Marriage Mysteries series, following the protagonist after her own marriage. Gladie Burger comes from a family with a long-standing matchmaking tradition. A central character is Gladie’s eccentric grandmother, Bubbe Zelda, who recruits Gladie into the family matchmaking business. She believes Gladie has inherited her “gift” for psychic insights into people’s true characters. This is a key asset in bringing the right people together for matrimonial purposes, but also for detecting guilty parties in criminal cases. While the series is a “romantasy” mystery set in a small California town, Jewish identity is a core element of the main character’s life. Gladie serves both Jewish and non-Jewish clients, and encounters a wide variety of murder cases in the course of her work, which she proceeds to solve.
